Ten agents, one honest bill
Zoho Desk alternatives and Zoho Desk competitors priced for ten agents
Nobody leaves Zoho Desk to save money. We priced six alternatives from their own pricing pages for one ten agent team at 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 conversations a month, and every one costs 4 to 23 times more once AI is on. So the real question is what the extra money buys, and whether a developer could fix the same problem on the Zoho you already pay for.

the short answer
For ten agents with AI on every conversation, no mainstream Zoho Desk alternative is cheaper. At 5,000 conversations a month Zoho Desk Professional comes to about $240, against $1,750 on Help Scout, $1,933 on HubSpot Service Hub, $2,830 on Intercom, $3,000 on Freshdesk and $3,530 on Zendesk. Pick an alternative for a capability Zoho lacks for you (native voice, a shared inbox, in product chat, a HubSpot CRM), not for the bill. If the gap is AI quality or missing integrations, a developer working 20 to 160 hours on your existing Zoho Desk usually costs less than one year of the price difference.
Assumptions: annual billing, US list prices. Zoho Desk and Zia Agents prices were read from Zoho's own price lists on October 7, 2026; the six alternatives come from our October 2 to 6 reads of each vendor's page. AI handles every conversation and resolves 40 percent, and a conversation uses about 8,000 model tokens.
Why teams leave
Why teams look for a Zoho Desk alternative
Zoho Desk sells four paid plans. On annual billing Express is $7 a user, Standard $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40. Paying month to month raises those to $9, $20, $35 and $50, which is 25 to 52 percent more. Our Zoho Desk pricing breakdown has every plan, add on and team bill.
The price is rarely the complaint. The plan gates are. Phone support and the built in Zia assistant start at Professional. Live chat for anonymous website visitors, skill based routing, a second brand's help center, custom modules and the sandbox all sit on Enterprise. A team that bought Standard for $14 a seat and then needs chat and phone is really buying the $40 plan.
The other reason is AI. Zoho's packaged agents run on Zoho hosted open models unless you connect your own OpenAI, Gemini or Claude key, and Zoho's product page lists the two prebuilt support agents for its US and India data centers only. Teams that expected the AI to work out of the box often find it needs setup: knowledge sources, custom functions, escalation rules. That is a staffing problem, and it can be solved without changing helpdesks.

Email, social, web forms, AI agents
Standard

The audit
Zoho Desk competitors and what their own pricing pages say
Most pages ranking for this search are written by a helpdesk that lists itself first. We do not sell a helpdesk. Prices are US list prices per agent a month on annual billing.
| Tool | Seat price | AI price | What the premium buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoho Desk (baseline) | Express $7, Standard $14, Professional $23, Enterprise $40 | Zia Agents included; 30 million tokens a month on Zoho hosted models, then $1 per million; your own model key billed by the vendor | This is the number nobody beats |
| Freshdesk | Growth $19, Pro $55, Enterprise $89 | Freddy AI Agent $0.49 per session, resolved or not | The closest product match, with a simpler admin and a packaged AI agent |
| Zendesk | Support Team $19, Suite Team $55, Suite Professional $115 | $1.50 per verified resolution committed, $2.00 pay as you go | Native voice by the minute, workforce management, the largest app marketplace |
| Help Scout | Standard $25 (up to 25), Plus $45 (up to 50), Pro $75 | AI Answers $0.75 per resolution; handoffs not billed | A plain email first inbox that agents learn in a day |
| HubSpot Service Hub | Starter $20 monthly, Professional $90 plus $1,500 onboarding | Customer Agent about $0.50 per resolved conversation, 3,000 credits a month on Professional | Tickets on the same record as deals, for teams whose CRM is HubSpot |
| Intercom | Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 | Fin from $0.99 per outcome | Chat, tours and onboarding inside a software product |
| Front | Starter $25 (up to 10), Professional $65 (up to 50), Enterprise $105 | Autopilot $0.05 triage, $0.39 handoff, $0.89 resolution | Shared email threads for support, sales and account managers together |
| Developer on your Zoho Desk | Keep the plan you have | Zia setup 20 to 60 hours, or a custom agent 60 to 160 hours plus about $0.05 of tokens per conversation | Better answers and system lookups without a migration |
Two caveats. Zoho's pricing page shows prices in your local currency and loads the numbers from a price list, so the US dollar figures here are the ones Zoho serves to US visitors. And Zoho's own pricing FAQ mentions a five user limit on its lower paid tier, which third party trackers attach to Express, so confirm the cap before you size a small team on it.
The unit that matters
What Zia AI costs per conversation on Zoho Desk
Every other helpdesk here bills AI by the result: a resolution, a session, an outcome. Zoho bills the raw material. Zia Agents carry no platform fee, and Zoho hosted models include 30 million tokens a month on the standard tier. Past that, Zoho's price list charges $1 per million tokens. The Pro tier model includes 20 million and costs $3 per million.
A support conversation with retrieved help articles and a few turns runs about 8,000 tokens. On that assumption the included allowance covers about 3,750 conversations a month, and each one after it costs less than a cent. At a 40 percent resolution rate that is about $0.02 per resolved conversation, against $0.50 to $1.50 everywhere else.
The catch is what you cannot read off a price list. Zoho publishes no resolution rate for its hosted models. If they resolve 25 percent where a tuned agent on a commercial model resolves 40, the bill stays tiny but your team answers 750 more conversations a month at 5,000 volume. At eight minutes each that is 100 agent hours.
Cost per AI resolved conversation at a 40 percent resolution rate
Token use per conversation is our assumption. At 4,000 tokens the allowance covers 7,500 conversations a month; at 15,000 it covers 2,000, and 10,000 conversations cost about $120.
Scale it
Monthly cost for ten agents at 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 conversations
Ten agents, annual billing, AI on every conversation and resolving 40 percent. Included allowances are subtracted and HubSpot's $1,500 onboarding fee is spread over 24 months. The developer rows keep Zoho Desk Professional seats and spread the work over two years.

|---|---|---|---|
| Zoho Desk Professional + Zia Agents | $230 | $240 | $280 |
| Zoho Desk Enterprise + Zia Agents | $400 | $410 | $450 |
| Zoho Desk Professional + Zia set up by a developer | $313 to $605 | $323 to $615 | $363 to $655 |
| Zoho Desk Professional + custom agent, lean build | $770 | $920 | $1,170 |
| Help Scout Standard + AI Answers | $850 | $1,750 | $3,250 |
| HubSpot Service Hub Pro + Customer Agent | $1,333 | $1,933 | $2,933 |
| Front Professional + Autopilot | $1,422 to $1,830 | $2,580 to $3,600 | $4,510 to $6,550 |
| Freshdesk Pro + Freddy AI Agent | $1,530 | $3,000 | $5,450 |
| Intercom Advanced + Fin | $1,642 | $2,830 | $4,810 |
| Zendesk Suite Team, committed resolutions | $1,730 | $3,530 | $6,530 |
| Zoho Desk Professional + custom agent, expensive build | $2,080 | $2,230 | $2,480 |
The price gap, converted into developer hours
At 5,000 conversations, moving ten agents from Zoho Desk Professional to Zendesk Suite Team adds about $3,290 a month, or $39,480 a year. At $125 an hour that is 26 hours of a developer every month, forever. A full custom agent on Zoho Desk takes 60 to 160 hours once.
So if the reason you are shopping is that Zia does not answer well enough or cannot see your order, billing or account data, the migration is the expensive fix. If the reason is a product gap such as voice or a shared inbox, the premium is the honest price of that feature.

Where Zoho Desk wins
When staying on Zoho Desk is the right call
If your CRM, billing or projects already live in Zoho, the helpdesk shares their contacts and accounts without a connector, and no competitor matches that at $23 a seat. The token pricing also means a support leader can turn AI on for every conversation without watching a per resolution meter.
Moving also costs time no pricing page shows: workflows, blueprints, SLAs, templates, help center articles, ticket history and every integration have to be rebuilt or exported. For a ten agent team that is weeks of an admin's time before the higher bill even starts.
Before you sign anything, measure the thing you are unhappy with. Count last month's conversations by channel, how many the bot closed and how many it passed to a person. If the numbers show an AI problem, fix the AI. If they show a product gap, the table above tells you what closing it costs.
Pick by situation
Which alternative to Zoho Desk fits your team
Same job, simpler admin
Freshdesk. Growth at $19 a seat is close to Zoho on price before AI. Freddy bills $0.49 per session whether or not it resolves, so cap the topics it handles.
Phone is half your volume
Zendesk. Native voice billed by the minute and workforce management on Suite plans, at $55 a seat and $1.50 per AI resolution.
Mostly email, small team
Help Scout. $25 a seat for up to 25 users, and AI Answers at $0.75 a resolution that does not bill handoffs. The lowest total among the alternatives.
CRM is HubSpot
Service Hub Professional. $90 a seat plus onboarding, with tickets on the same record as deals and Customer Agent at about $0.50 a resolution.
Sales and support share threads
Front. $65 a seat on Professional for a shared inbox where account managers comment on customer email. Watch Autopilot handoffs at $0.39.
The AI is the problem
Keep Zoho Desk and hire a developer. Zia Agents set up properly, or a custom agent that reads your own systems through the Zoho Desk API, for less than a year of any premium above.
Comparing from the other side? Our Freshdesk alternatives, Zendesk alternatives, Help Scout alternatives and Front alternatives pages run the same unit math for other team sizes.
Fix it in place
What a developer does on Zoho Desk instead of a migration
There are two scopes. The small one is Zia Agents done properly: 20 to 60 hours, $2,000 to $9,000 at $100 to $150 an hour, or $83 to $375 a month spread over two years. The large one is a custom agent that reads your own systems and writes through the Zoho Desk API: 60 to 160 hours, $6,000 to $24,000, about $440 to $1,750 a month over two years with hosting and upkeep, plus about $0.05 of commercial model tokens per conversation. Test either on a few hundred past tickets first; our guide to evaluating an AI agent before you ship it covers the test set, and the AI customer service page compares build and buy across more vendors.

The honest version
Where BotGigs fits, and where it does not
BotGigs does not sell a helpdesk. It is where you hire the developer who sets up Zia Agents, builds a custom support agent on your Zoho Desk, or moves your tickets, workflows and help center to the tool you picked above. Describe your volume, your plan, the systems the agent must read and the actions it may take, and get back a scoped hire brief with matched chatbot developers, their rates and their delivery location. Posting the job is $99 a month.
If your team handles a few hundred conversations a month and the answer bot covers the common questions, you do not need us or a new helpdesk. Hiring pays off when answers depend on data outside Zoho, when the bot's resolution rate is costing agent hours, or when you have decided to move and want the migration done in weeks instead of a quarter.
Put in the hire brief
- Monthly conversations by channel and how many the bot resolves today
- Your Zoho Desk plan, agent count and data center, or the tool you are moving to
- Systems the agent must read: billing, CRM, orders, product database
- Actions it may take and the limits on each
- Go live date and who reviews its answers in week one
Questions
Zoho Desk alternative questions buyers ask
What is the best alternative to Zoho Desk?
It depends on what Zoho Desk is failing at, because none of the six alternatives we priced is cheaper. For a ten agent team at 5,000 conversations a month with AI resolving 40 percent, Help Scout Standard with AI Answers is the closest on cost at about $1,750 a month against $240 on Zoho Desk Professional. HubSpot Service Hub fits teams whose CRM is HubSpot, and Zendesk fits teams that need native voice and workforce management.
Who are Zoho Desk competitors?
The helpdesks most often compared with Zoho Desk are Freshdesk, Zendesk, Help Scout, HubSpot Service Hub, Intercom and Front. All six publish seat prices from $19 to $132 per agent a month against $14 to $40 on Zoho Desk, and all six bill AI per resolution, session or outcome, while Zoho bills AI agents by model tokens with 30 million tokens a month included.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Zoho Desk?
Not among the mainstream helpdesks once AI is switched on. Zoho Desk Standard is $14 per agent and Professional $23 on annual billing, and its AI agents run on 30 million included tokens a month, then $1 per million. Freshdesk Growth at $19 and Zendesk Support Team at $19 come closest on seats, but their AI is billed at $0.49 per session and $1.50 per resolution.
Is Zoho Desk better than Zendesk?
On price, yes by a wide margin: ten agents at 5,000 conversations a month cost about $240 on Zoho Desk Professional and about $3,530 on Zendesk Suite Team with AI agents at the committed rate. Zendesk is the stronger product for native voice billed by the minute, workforce management, a larger app marketplace and AI agents that are sold with a verified resolution guarantee.
How much does Zia AI cost in Zoho Desk?
Zoho does not charge per resolution. Zia Agents are included, and you pay only for model usage: Zoho hosted models include 30 million tokens a month on the standard tier, then $1 per million tokens, or 20 million a month and $3 per million on the Pro tier model. If you connect your own OpenAI, Gemini or Claude key, the vendor bills you directly at its own rates.
How much does it cost to hire a developer for Zoho Desk AI?
Configuring Zia Agents with your knowledge base, custom functions and escalation rules is typically 20 to 60 hours of work, about $2,000 to $9,000 at $100 to $150 an hour. A fully custom agent that reads your own systems and writes replies through the Zoho Desk API is 60 to 160 hours, about $6,000 to $24,000, plus roughly $0.05 of model tokens per conversation on a commercial model.
Helpdesk AI prices moved several times this year, including Zendesk's switch to verified resolutions in May and HubSpot's move to outcome pricing in April. Check each rate again before you sign, and put the AI unit price in the contract, not just the seat price.
