Ten agents, three volumes, one unit
Zendesk alternatives and Zendesk competitors priced per AI resolution
Zendesk seats cost about what everyone else charges. The AI does not. Every verified resolution is $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go, the highest packaged rate we found. We priced eight alternatives from their own pricing pages for one ten agent team at 3,000, 8,000 and 15,000 tickets a month.

the short answer
For a ten agent team at 8,000 tickets a month with AI resolving 40 percent, the cheapest packaged Zendesk alternative we priced is HubSpot Service Hub Professional at about $2,533, then Help Scout Plus at about $2,850, against about $5,330 for Zendesk Suite Team on committed resolutions and $6,930 pay as you go. A custom agent that keeps your Zendesk seats undercuts all of them past about 840 tickets a month on a lean build.
Assumptions: annual billing, US list prices read from each vendor's page on October 2, 2026, and an AI that resolves 40 percent of tickets. Zendesk's AI line is the one that moves the total, so the math sits in the open below and you can rerun it with your own rate.

Why teams leave
Why support teams look for a Zendesk alternative in 2026
The seat is rarely the trigger. Suite Team at $55 a month on annual terms is the same price as Freshdesk Pro, and cheaper than Intercom Advanced or HubSpot Service Hub Professional. The trouble starts with three lines that sit next to it on the invoice.
The first is the AI meter. Zendesk bills its AI agents per automated resolution: $1.50 when you buy a block in advance, $2.00 when you pay as you go. A ten seat Suite Team account carries $20 of allowance a month, which covers about 13 resolutions. A team whose AI resolves 3,200 tickets a month pays about $4,780 on top of $550 of seats.
The second is add-ons. Copilot, the assistant for your own agents, is $50 per agent a month. The workforce engagement bundle is another $50 and Contact Center $83. The third is monthly billing: Suite Professional is $149 a seat month to month against $115 annual, so a team that will not commit for a year pays 30 percent more. Our Zendesk pricing breakdown covers every plan, add-on and voice rate.
The audit
Zendesk competitors and what their own pricing pages say
Nearly every page ranking for this search is published by a helpdesk vendor that lists itself first. We do not sell a helpdesk. Prices are US list prices per agent a month on annual billing, read from each vendor's page on October 2, 2026 unless the row says otherwise.
| Helpdesk | Seat price | AI price | Where it beats Zendesk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zendesk (baseline) | Support Team $19, Suite Team $55, Suite Professional $115, Enterprise by quote | $1.50 per verified resolution committed, $2.00 pay as you go. Copilot $50 per agent | This is the number to beat |
| Help Scout | Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75 | AI Answers $0.75 per resolution, with a spend cap | Email-first teams that want a simple inbox and half the AI unit price |
| HubSpot Service Hub | Starter $20 monthly, Professional $90 plus $1,500 onboarding, Enterprise by quote | Customer Agent 50 credits ($0.50) per resolved conversation, 3,000 credits a month included on Professional | Teams whose sales and marketing already live in HubSpot |
| Freshdesk | Growth $19, Pro $55, Enterprise $89 | Freddy AI Agent $0.49 per session, resolved or not. Copilot $29 | Same seat price with a cheaper AI meter at most resolution rates |
| Intercom | Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 | Fin from $0.99 per outcome | Chat inside your product. Fin also runs on top of Zendesk |
| Zoho Desk | Standard $14, Professional $23, Enterprise $40 | Zia Agents included; 30 million model tokens a month, then $1 per million | Lowest seat here, and a fit for teams on Zoho CRM |
| Front | Starter $25, Professional $65, Enterprise $105 | Autopilot $0.05 triage, $0.39 handoff, $0.89 resolution per conversation; Copilot $20 per seat | Shared inboxes where account managers and support work the same threads |
| Gorgias | Per ticket, not per seat. Pro $300 for 2,000, Advanced $750 for 5,000 | $0.90 per automated interaction annual, $1.00 monthly, each also uses a ticket | Shopify stores with many part-time agents |
| Kustomer and Gladly | Kustomer publishes nothing. Gladly lists a Shopify starter at $250 a month plus $120 per team member | Gladly lists $1.50 per AI resolution on that plan | Large consumer brands buying through sales |
| Custom agent | Keep Zendesk Suite Team at $55 a seat | About $0.05 of model tokens per conversation, plus a 60 to 160 hour build | Real volume, data behind your own APIs, or rules a packaged bot cannot follow |
Three caveats. Zendesk changed how it counts AI usage on May 18, 2026, and its help center calls the prices in its own migration examples placeholders, so we use the $1.50 and $2.00 still printed on the pricing page. Zoho Desk bills AI by model tokens instead of resolutions, so its row assumes 8,000 tokens a ticket (see our Zoho Desk alternatives math). Front prints Autopilot as from $0.05 on its pricing page; its help center bills $0.05 to triage, $0.39 to hand off and $0.89 to resolve a conversation (see our Front alternatives math).

The unit that matters
What one AI resolved ticket costs on Zendesk and its competitors
Vendors bill AI in different units: resolutions, outcomes, sessions, credits, interactions. We converted each to the cost of one ticket the AI actually resolved, at a 40 percent resolution rate where the vendor bills attempts rather than results.
Zendesk sits at the top. In fairness, its May 2026 change helps: it no longer bills a conversation that ends in a handoff or one where the customer simply goes quiet, so you only pay for verified wins. Freshdesk does the opposite and bills every session. That is why Freshdesk beats Zendesk at a 40 percent rate but loses to it once Freddy resolves fewer than about one ticket in three.
Scale it
Monthly cost for ten agents at 3,000, 8,000 and 15,000 tickets
Ten agents on the tier most Zendesk teams compare against, annual billing, AI on every ticket and resolving 40 percent. Included allowances are subtracted. HubSpot's $1,500 onboarding fee is spread over 24 months. The custom agent keeps Zendesk Suite Team seats and adds $440 to $1,750 a month of build, hosting and upkeep over two years.
| Ten agents, per month | 3,000 | 8,000 | 15,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zendesk Suite Team, committed resolutions | $2,330 | $5,330 | $9,530 |
| Zendesk Suite Team, pay as you go | $2,930 | $6,930 | $12,530 |
| Zendesk Suite Professional, committed | $2,900 | $5,900 | $10,100 |
| HubSpot Service Hub Pro + Customer Agent | $1,533 | $2,533 | $3,933 |
| Help Scout Plus + AI Answers | $1,350 | $2,850 | $4,950 |
| Intercom Advanced + Fin | $2,038 | $4,018 | $6,790 |
| Freshdesk Pro + Freddy AI Agent | $2,020 | $4,470 | $7,900 |
| Zoho Desk Professional + Zia Agents | $230 | $264 | $320 |
| Custom agent on Zendesk Suite Team, lean build | $1,140 | $1,390 | $1,740 |
| Custom agent on Zendesk Suite Team, expensive build | $2,450 | $2,700 | $3,050 |
~840 tickets
Where a lean custom agent ($990 fixed with Suite Team seats, plus $0.05 a conversation) drops below Zendesk Suite Team on committed resolutions. An expensive build needs about 3,200.
~1,010 tickets
Where HubSpot Service Hub Professional with Customer Agent becomes cheaper than Zendesk Suite Team. Below that, Zendesk wins on its lower seat price.
~1,570 tickets
Where Intercom Advanced with Fin passes Zendesk Suite Team. Intercom seats cost $30 more each, Fin costs $0.51 less per resolution.
Help Scout, always
Help Scout Plus has the lower seat ($45 against $55) and the lower AI unit ($0.75 against $1.50), so it is cheaper than Zendesk Suite Team at every volume.
Where Zendesk wins
When staying on Zendesk is the right call
Take the AI out and Zendesk is fairly priced. Ten Suite Team seats are $550 a month, the same as Freshdesk Pro and well under Intercom Advanced at $850 or HubSpot Professional at $900. You also get voice built in at usage rates most phone vendors cannot match: inbound US calls at $0.016 a minute and a number for $1 a month.
Zendesk is still the strongest choice for teams past about 50 agents that need workforce management, quality assurance, sandbox environments and the largest app marketplace in the category. Migrating years of tickets, macros, triggers and Guide articles is a real project. If your AI volume is modest, the cheaper move is often to keep Zendesk and replace only the AI layer.
2,000 inbound calls, 4 minutes each, transcribed after the call
- Inbound, 8,000 min x $0.016$128
- Transcription, 8,000 min x $0.01$80
- Two numbers x $1$2
About 10.5 cents a call before seats. Outbound and toll free rates are on Zendesk's rate table and vary.
Pick by situation
Which alternative to Zendesk fits your team
Email-first, want a capped AI bill
Help Scout. $45 a seat on Plus, AI Answers at $0.75 per resolution, and a spend cap so a busy month cannot surprise finance.
Sales and marketing on HubSpot
Service Hub Professional. The seat costs more, but Customer Agent at about $0.50 per resolution makes it the cheapest packaged AI bill from about 1,010 tickets.
Same tool shape, smaller AI line
Freshdesk Pro. Same $55 seat, a similar ticket model, and a Freddy session at $0.49. Strong if your knowledge base lets the AI resolve a third of tickets or more.
Chat inside your product
Intercom. Or keep Zendesk and run Fin on top of it at $0.99 per outcome, which halves the AI unit without a migration.
Tight budget, already on Zoho
Zoho Desk. Seats from $14, and Professional at $23 covers most of what Suite Team teams use. Its AI agents bill by model tokens, about $34 a month at 8,000 tickets.
High volume, data behind your APIs
Keep Zendesk seats and add a custom agent. It reads your billing and product data, writes back through the Zendesk API, and costs about $0.05 a conversation to run.
Teams leaving a different helpdesk will find the same math from the other side on our Freshdesk alternatives and Intercom alternatives pages (and teams already on Help Scout on our Help Scout alternatives page), and Shopify brands should also read Gorgias alternatives, where tickets rather than seats drive the bill.
Build it
What a custom AI agent on Zendesk includes, week by week
Zendesk exposes tickets, users, macros and Guide articles through its REST API on every paid plan, so a custom agent does not require you to leave. Scopes we see run 60 to 160 hours. At $100 to $150 an hour that is $6,000 to $24,000, or $250 to $1,000 a month over two years, plus hosting, monitoring and upkeep. Test it on a few hundred real tickets first; our guide to evaluating an AI agent before you ship it covers the test set, and the AI customer service page compares build and buy across more vendors.
Guide answers
Answers from your Guide articles, cites the article, and refuses topics you mark off limits.
Account lookups
Reads plan, invoice, usage or order status from your own systems.
Safe actions
Resends invoices, resets access or updates details within limits, each logged.
Triage
Tags, prioritizes and routes to the right group without extra Zendesk add-ons.
Handoff
Writes an internal note for your agent and reports resolution rate weekly.
The honest version
Where BotGigs fits, and where it does not
BotGigs does not sell a helpdesk. It is where you hire the developer who builds the support agent on top of Zendesk, or who moves your tickets, macros, triggers and Guide articles to the tool you picked above. Describe your ticket volume, your helpdesk, the systems the agent must read and the actions it may take, and get back a scoped hire brief with matched chatbot developers, their rates and their delivery location. Posting the job is $99 a month.
If your AI resolves fewer than a few hundred tickets a month, you probably do not need us: a committed block of Zendesk resolutions will cost less than any build. Hiring pays off once AI volume passes about a thousand tickets, when answers depend on data in your own product, or when a migration carries years of history.
Put in the hire brief
- Monthly tickets by channel and the share you expect AI to resolve
- Your Zendesk plan and add-ons, or the helpdesk you are moving to
- Systems the agent must read: billing, CRM, product database
- Actions it may take and the limits on each
- Go-live date and who reviews its answers in week one
Questions
Zendesk alternative questions buyers ask
What is the best alternative to Zendesk?
For a ten agent team at 8,000 tickets a month with AI resolving 40 percent, HubSpot Service Hub Professional with Customer Agent was the cheapest packaged option we priced at about $2,533 a month, then Help Scout Plus with AI Answers at about $2,850, against about $5,330 for Zendesk Suite Team on committed resolutions. A custom agent on Zendesk Suite Team seats costs about $1,390 to $2,700.
Who are Zendesk competitors?
The helpdesks most often compared with Zendesk are Freshdesk, Help Scout, HubSpot Service Hub, Intercom, Zoho Desk and Front, plus Gorgias for Shopify stores and Kustomer or Gladly for large consumer brands. Kustomer publishes no prices and Gladly only a Shopify starter plan; the rest publish seat prices.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Zendesk?
Yes. On seats, Zoho Desk Professional at $23 and Help Scout Plus at $45 sit below Zendesk Suite Team at $55. With AI the gap widens: Zendesk charges $1.50 per automated resolution committed and $2.00 pay as you go, against $0.75 on Help Scout, $0.99 on Intercom Fin and about $0.50 on HubSpot Customer Agent.
How much does a Zendesk automated resolution cost?
Zendesk's pricing page lists $1.50 per automated resolution bought in advance and $2.00 pay as you go. Since May 18, 2026 only Verified Resolutions are billed; assisted escalations and contained resolutions are not. Each seat includes a small dollar allowance, $2 a month on Suite Team and $5 on Suite Professional.
Is Freshdesk cheaper than Zendesk?
On seats they match: Freshdesk Pro and Zendesk Suite Team are both $55 per agent on annual billing. With AI, Freshdesk is cheaper for a ten agent team above about 180 tickets a month, because Freddy costs $0.49 per session against Zendesk's $1.50 per resolution, which at a 40 percent rate is $0.60 per ticket.
How much does it cost to build a custom AI support agent for Zendesk?
An agent that answers from your Zendesk Guide articles, reads account data through your APIs and updates tickets through the Zendesk API is typically 60 to 160 hours of work. Over two years with hosting and upkeep that is about $440 to $1,750 a month of fixed cost plus about $0.05 of model tokens per conversation.
Helpdesk AI prices have moved several times this year, including Zendesk's own change to verified resolutions in May and HubSpot's switch to outcome pricing in April. Check each rate again before you sign, and put the AI price per resolution in the contract, not just the seat price.
