Eight seats, three AI price tiers

Front alternatives and Front competitors priced per AI resolution

Front's seat prices are easy to read. Autopilot is not: it bills every conversation it touches, and the ones it hands to a person cost $0.39 each. We priced eight alternatives and a custom agent from their own pages for one eight seat team at 1,000, 3,000 and 6,000 conversations a month.

Front Autopilot, billed once per conversation at the highest level reached.

Operations manager reviewing shared customer conversations and booked meetings at a desk

the short answer

For eight seats with AI on every conversation and 40 percent resolved, Help Scout Standard with AI Answers is the cheapest helpdesk with a published AI price at every volume we priced, and HubSpot Service Hub Professional passes Front Professional from about 600 to 1,250 conversations a month. If you chose Front because sales and account managers share the inbox, Hiver and Missive keep that model for less. A custom agent on your Front seats undercuts Autopilot from about 815 to 1,310 conversations a month on a lean build.

Assumptions: annual billing, US list prices read from each vendor's page on October 6, 2026 (Help Scout, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom and HubSpot from our October 2 to 5 reads), AI on every conversation and resolving 40 percent. Front's range runs from the other 60 percent being only triaged to all of them being handed off.

Why teams leave

Why teams look for a Front alternative

Front sells three plans on annual billing. Starter is $25 a seat for up to 10 seats and one channel type, Professional is $65 for up to 50 seats with every channel, and Enterprise is $105 with no cap. Month to month, Front's own page shows about $33 and $86, a 24 percent premium.

The caps are the first surprise. The 11th seat on Starter does not add one seat, it moves the whole team to Professional, and the bill jumps from $250 to $715 a month. The 51st seat moves everyone to Enterprise, from $3,250 to $5,355. Add ons make it worse: Copilot is $20 a seat, and third party trackers list Smart QA at $20 and Smart CSAT at $10, so Professional with all three reaches $115 a seat, more than Enterprise at $105 with the same features included.

The second is Autopilot. Front's help center bills $0.05 to triage a conversation, $0.39 to hand it to a person and $0.89 to resolve it with no human reply, once per conversation at the highest level reached. A bot that tries every conversation and resolves 40 percent costs $0.97 to $1.48 per resolution, which is more than Intercom Fin. Our Front pricing breakdown has every plan, add on and team bill.

The audit

Front competitors and what their own pricing pages say

The pages ranking for this search are mostly written by a helpdesk that lists itself first. We do not sell a helpdesk or an inbox. Prices are US list prices per seat a month on annual billing.

Tool Seat price AI price Where it beats Front
Front (baseline) Starter $25 (up to 10, one channel), Professional $65 (up to 50), Enterprise $105 Autopilot $0.05 triage, $0.39 handoff, $0.89 resolution; Copilot $20 a seat, included on Enterprise This is the number to beat
Missive Starter $14 (up to 5), Productive $24 (up to 50), Business $36 AI by Missive credits or your own model key; no AI agent price published Shared inbox with assigned threads and internal chat at about a third of the seat
Hiver Growth $25, Pro $55, Elite $85, 2 seat minimum AI agents listed as included in the plan; no usage limit published Teams that want to stay inside Gmail and keep AI off a meter
Help Scout Standard $25 (up to 25), Plus $45 (up to 50), Pro $75 AI Answers $0.75 per resolution; handoffs not billed Support teams that mostly answer email and want the cheapest AI unit
HubSpot Service Hub Starter $20 monthly, Professional $90 plus $1,500 onboarding Customer Agent about $0.50 per resolved conversation, 3,000 credits a month on Professional High AI volume, and teams whose CRM is already HubSpot
Intercom Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 Fin from $0.99 per outcome Chat, tours and onboarding inside a software product
Freshdesk Growth $19, Pro $55, Enterprise $89 Freddy AI Agent $0.49 per session, resolved or not Lower entry seat for classic ticketing
Zendesk Support Team $19, Suite Team $55, Suite Professional $115 $1.50 per verified resolution committed, $2.00 pay as you go Past 50 agents, native voice and workforce management
Custom agent Keep Front Professional at $65 a seat About $0.05 of model tokens per conversation, plus a 60 to 160 hour build Real volume, or answers that need data from your own systems

Two caveats. Front's pricing page prints Autopilot only as "from $0.05", and the three tier rates come from Front's own help center, so confirm them on your order form. Hiver and Missive publish no AI usage price at all, which is cheap until a fair use limit appears, so get it in writing.

The unit that matters

What 1,000 conversations cost on Front Autopilot

Front bills the outcome, but not only the good outcome. A conversation Autopilot resolves is $0.89. One it works on and then passes to a teammate is $0.39. One it only tags and routes is $0.05. What you pay depends on how you set it up.

If Autopilot drafts and replies on everything, most unresolved conversations end as handoffs. If you limit it to triage outside the topics it can close, the rest cost a nickel. The same 400 resolutions cost $386 or $590 a month, a 53 percent spread from configuration alone.

Scale it

Monthly cost for eight seats at 1,000, 3,000 and 6,000 conversations

Eight seats, annual billing, AI on every conversation and resolving 40 percent. Included allowances are subtracted and HubSpot's $1,500 onboarding fee is spread over 24 months. The custom agent keeps Front Professional seats and adds $440 to $1,750 a month of build, hosting and upkeep over two years.

Eight seats, per month 1,000 3,000 6,000
Front Professional + Autopilot $906 to $1,110 $1,678 to $2,290 $2,836 to $4,060
Front Starter + Autopilot (one channel) $586 to $790 $1,358 to $1,970 $2,516 to $3,740
Help Scout Standard + AI Answers $500 $1,100 $2,000
HubSpot Service Hub Pro + Customer Agent $953 $1,353 $1,953
Hiver Pro, AI listed as included $440 $440 $440 (check fair use)
Missive Productive $192 + AI credits $192 + AI credits $192 + AI credits
Intercom Advanced + Fin $1,076 $1,868 $3,056
Freshdesk Pro + Freddy AI Agent $930 $1,910 $3,380
Zendesk Suite Team, committed resolutions $1,024 $2,224 $4,024
Custom agent on Front Professional, lean build $1,010 $1,110 $1,260
Custom agent on Front Professional, expensive build $2,320 $2,420 $2,570

815 to 1,310

Conversations a month where a lean custom agent ($440 fixed plus $0.05 a conversation) costs less than Autopilot on the same Front seats. An expensive build needs about 3,240 to 5,210.

600 to 1,250

Where HubSpot Service Hub Professional, $90 seat and onboarding included, passes Front Professional with Autopilot for eight seats.

Always

Help Scout Standard costs less than Front Starter at every volume: the same $25 seat, and $0.30 of AI per conversation against $0.39 to $0.59.

Close call

Zendesk Suite Team costs more than Front Professional when Autopilot only triages the rest, and $36 to $86 a month less when every unresolved conversation is handed off.

Where Front wins

When staying on Front is the right call

Front is not a helpdesk with a shared inbox bolted on. It is an inbox where an account manager, a support agent and someone in finance can all comment on the same customer email, and a ticketing tool does not replace that well. If most of your volume is B2B email with several people on the thread, the seat price is buying something real.

Moving also costs time no pricing page shows: rules, tags, templates, signatures, contact history and every integration. If the only thing hurting is the Autopilot line, replace the AI layer and keep the inbox. Turn Autopilot down to triage on topics it cannot close, which alone can cut the bill by a third.

Front, one month annual prices

Eight seats on Professional, Copilot on four, 2,000 conversations, 800 resolved, 400 handed off, 800 triaged

  • 8 seats x $65$520
  • Copilot, 4 x $20$80
  • 800 resolutions x $0.89$712
  • 400 handoffs x $0.39$156
  • 800 triage x $0.05$40
Total$1,508

Autopilot is 60 percent of this bill. The same team on Help Scout Standard with AI Answers is about $800.

Pick by situation

Which alternative to Front fits your team

Shared inbox, smaller budget

Missive. $24 a user on Productive with assignment, internal chat and shared drafts. AI runs on credits or your own model key, so it fits teams that do not need an AI agent.

Team lives in Gmail

Hiver. $55 a seat on Pro with AI agents listed as included. Ask for the usage limit in writing before you count on it.

Mostly support email

Help Scout. The same $25 entry seat, a 25 user cap instead of 10, and AI Answers at $0.75 that does not bill handoffs.

High AI volume, CRM on HubSpot

Service Hub Professional. The $90 seat is steep, but Customer Agent at about $0.50 a resolution passes Front from roughly 600 to 1,250 conversations.

Past 50 agents, need voice

Zendesk. Native voice at usage rates, workforce management and the biggest app marketplace, at a higher AI unit.

AI must read your own systems

Keep Front and add a custom agent. It reads orders, contracts and invoices from your systems, writes replies and comments through the Front API and costs about $0.05 a conversation to run.

Comparing from the other side? Our Help Scout alternatives, Zendesk alternatives and Intercom alternatives pages run the same unit math for other team sizes.

Build it

How a custom AI agent on Front gets built

Front exposes conversations, messages, comments, tags and contacts through its API and fires webhooks on new messages, so a custom agent does not need a migration. Scopes we see run 60 to 160 hours. At $100 to $150 an hour that is $6,000 to $24,000, or $250 to $1,000 a month over two years before hosting and upkeep. Test it on a few hundred past threads first; our guide to evaluating an AI agent before you ship it covers the test set, and the AI customer service page compares build and buy across more vendors.

  1. 1

    Triage and tags

    10 to 25 h

Classifies, tags and routes every inbound message to the right inbox or teammate, the $0.05 job, for fractions of a cent.

  2. 2

    Answers from your docs

    15 to 35 h

Replies from your knowledge base and past threads, cites the source and declines topics you mark off limits.

  3. 3

    20 to 60 h

Reads contract, invoice or order status from your systems and takes the safe actions you allow, each one logged.

  4. 4

    Handoff comments

    15 to 40 h

Leaves an internal comment with a summary and a draft for the teammate, and reports the resolution rate weekly.

The honest version

Where BotGigs fits, and where it does not

BotGigs does not sell an inbox. It is where you hire the developer who builds the support agent on top of Front, or who moves your conversations, rules, tags and templates to the tool you picked above. Describe your volume, your inbox, the systems the agent must read and the actions it may take, and get back a scoped hire brief with matched chatbot developers, their rates and their delivery location. Posting the job is $99 a month.

If Autopilot touches fewer than about 800 conversations a month, you probably do not need us: set it to triage the topics it cannot close and keep it. Hiring pays off past about 1,300 conversations, when answers depend on data in your own systems, or when the 11th or 51st seat is about to reprice the whole team.

Put in the hire brief

  • Monthly conversations by channel and how many Autopilot resolves, hands off and triages today
  • Your Front plan and seat count, or the tool you are moving to
  • Systems the agent must read: billing, CRM, contracts, product database
  • Actions it may take and the limits on each
  • Go live date and who reviews its answers in week one

Questions

Front alternative questions buyers ask

What is the best alternative to Front?

For an eight seat support team with AI on every conversation and 40 percent resolved, Help Scout Standard with AI Answers is the cheapest option with a published AI price at every volume we priced: about $500 a month at 1,000 conversations against $906 to $1,110 on Front Professional with Autopilot. If several teams must work the same threads, Hiver or Missive keep the shared inbox model for less.

Who are Front competitors?

The tools most often compared with Front are Missive and Hiver for shared inboxes, Help Scout, Zendesk, Freshdesk and HubSpot Service Hub for helpdesk ticketing, and Intercom for in product chat. They all publish seat prices; they differ on how they bill AI and on whether sales and account teams can work inside the same inbox.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Front?

Yes. On seats, Missive costs $14 to $36 per user and Hiver $25 to $85, against $25 to $105 on Front. On AI, Help Scout AI Answers at $0.75 and HubSpot Customer Agent at about $0.50 per resolution cost less than Front Autopilot, which bills $0.89 per resolution plus $0.39 for every conversation it hands to a person.

How much does Front Autopilot cost?

Front bills Autopilot once per conversation at the highest level it reaches: $0.05 to triage, $0.39 to hand off to a teammate and $0.89 to resolve with no human reply. At a 40 percent resolution rate that works out to about $0.97 per resolved conversation if the rest are only triaged, and about $1.48 if the rest are handed off.

Is Front better than Zendesk?

For teams where support, sales and account managers share customer email, Front is the better fit and costs about the same: $1,678 to $2,290 a month for eight seats at 3,000 conversations with Autopilot, against about $2,224 on Zendesk Suite Team with AI agents. Zendesk wins on native voice, workforce management and its app marketplace.

How much does a custom AI agent on Front cost?

An agent that reads your knowledge base and your own systems and writes replies and comments through the Front API is typically 60 to 160 hours of work. Over two years with hosting and upkeep that is about $440 to $1,750 a month of fixed cost plus about $0.05 of model tokens per conversation, which beats Autopilot from about 815 to 1,310 conversations a month on a lean build.

Helpdesk AI prices moved several times this year, including Zendesk's switch to verified resolutions in May and HubSpot's move to outcome pricing in April. Check each rate again before you sign, and put the AI price per conversation level in the contract, not just the seat price.
