Botpress pricing is per conversation since May 2026. Plus costs $150 a month billed annually for 250 conversations, Team $750 for 1,500, and extra conversations are sold in packs of 100 at $65 on Plus ($0.65 each) and $50 on Team ($0.50 each). Each conversation includes $0.10 of AI usage, and anything above that is billed at cost. In practice a support bot on Team costs about $0.50 per conversation, which works out near $1.00 per resolved conversation if the bot closes half of them.
How much does Botpress cost?
These figures come from botpress.com/pricing and the Botpress pricing update post from May 2026, both read in September 2026. The plan prices on the page are shown with the annual toggle, which is labeled "Save 20%".
| Plan | Price | Conversations | Extra conversations | AI usage and seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 25 a month | None, hard cap | 3 seats, 3 AI agents |
| Plus | $150 a month, billed annually | 250 a month | $65 per 100 ($0.65 each) | $25 AI usage, 3 seats, unlimited agents |
| Team | $750 a month, billed annually | 1,500 a month | $50 per 100 ($0.50 each) | $150 AI usage, unlimited seats and agents |
| Built by Botpress | $1,650 a month in the May 2026 announcement; "Contact us" on the pricing page | Custom | Custom | Botpress builds and maintains the agent |
| Enterprise | Talk to sales | Custom | Custom | Custom storage, security review, voice |
| Storage add-on | $40 a month | n/a | n/a | 100,000 table rows, 1 GB vector, 10 GB files |
Two notes on the table. The page does not print a monthly-billing price. If the 20 percent is taken off the monthly price, monthly billing would work out near $187.50 for Plus and $937.50 for Team, but that is our arithmetic, so confirm it at checkout. And the new plans only apply to workspaces created after May 14, 2026. Older workspaces keep the pricing they signed up on, which is why reviews written before that date quote very different numbers.
What counts as a conversation in Botpress?
Botpress defines a conversation as any exchange with at least two messages from the end user in the billing month. A visitor who opens the widget and types one line costs nothing. A visitor who asks a question and follows up costs one conversation, however long the thread gets.
The small print matters more than the headline. A conversation that spans two months counts in both months. Multiple anonymous sessions from the same person count as separate conversations, so a shopper who comes back the next day without logging in is two. For voice, every 3 minutes of a call counts as one conversation. And, in Botpress's own words, AI-only and human-assisted conversations are counted the same, as are emulator conversations. That last point catches builders: the test chats you run while building the bot use the same quota as your customers.
How does Botpress AI spend work?
Before May 2026, Botpress billed model usage separately. Now each conversation carries $0.10 of AI usage that Botpress covers, which is why Plus includes $25 (250 x $0.10) and Team $150 (1,500 x $0.10). The allowance is pooled across the workspace, so cheap conversations subsidize expensive ones.
If the pool runs out, Botpress buys a $10 credit grant for you when you reach 95 percent of the limit, sold at cost. The page says the $10 amount and the 95 percent trigger are not configurable yet, and grants do not expire at the end of the month. For most support bots on a small, fast model, $0.10 a conversation is plenty: a four message chat with retrieval usually costs a few cents in tokens. The allowance runs short when the bot uses a frontier model, stuffs long documents into every turn, or runs as an agent that calls several tools per answer. That is the case where the bill can drift above the plan price, so watch the AI spend meter in the first month.
Which Botpress plan is cheapest for your volume?
Because packs are bought in blocks of 100, the effective price per conversation moves around a little. Here is the monthly bill at annual pricing, AI usage assumed within the $0.10 allowance.
| Conversations a month | Plus | Team | Cheaper plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 | $150 ($0.60 each) | $750 ($3.00 each) | Plus |
| 500 | $345 ($0.69 each) | $750 ($1.50 each) | Plus |
| 1,000 | $670 ($0.67 each) | $750 ($0.75 each) | Plus, unless you need more than 3 seats |
| 1,500 | $995 ($0.66 each) | $750 ($0.50 each) | Team |
| 3,000 | $1,970 ($0.66 each) | $1,500 ($0.50 each) | Team |
| 10,000 | $6,520 ($0.65 each) | $5,000 ($0.50 each) | Team, or ask for an Enterprise quote |
The crossover sits at about 1,150 to 1,250 conversations a month. Nine packs on Plus cost $585, taking the bill to $735 for up to 1,150 conversations; the tenth pack takes it to $800, above Team's flat $750. Seats can move it earlier. Plus includes three, and Team is the first plan with unlimited seats, so a support team of five that wants everyone inside Botpress lands on Team regardless of volume.
What does Botpress cost per resolved conversation?
This is the number to compare with other vendors, and Botpress makes an explicit choice here: it bills every conversation, resolved or handed to a person. Its pricing page argues that per-resolution pricing creates disputes over what "resolved" means and raises the bill as the bot improves. That is a fair point, but it means your cost per resolution depends on your resolution rate.
| Vendor and unit | List price | Per resolution at 30% | At 50% | At 70% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Botpress Team, per conversation | $0.50 | $1.67 | $1.00 | $0.71 |
| Botpress Plus overage, per conversation | $0.65 | $2.17 | $1.30 | $0.93 |
| Richpanel AI, per conversation | $0.20 | $0.67 | $0.40 | $0.29 |
| Intercom Fin, per outcome | $0.99 | $0.99 | $0.99 | $0.99 |
| Help Scout AI Answers, per resolution | $0.75 | $0.75 | $0.75 | $0.75 |
| Custom agent, model tokens only | About $0.05 | $0.17 | $0.10 | $0.07 |
So Botpress beats Intercom Fin per resolution only once the bot closes about half of what it sees, and Help Scout only above about two thirds. The comparison is not quite like for like, because Botpress is a builder and an AI helpdesk, not an add-on to an inbox you already pay for. The custom row leaves out hosting and the build, which we add back below. Seat and ticket costs for the helpdesks are worked through on our Gorgias alternatives and Intercom alternatives pages, and the usage-priced builder Voiceflow, which charges fractions of a cent per message instead of a conversation fee, is in our Voiceflow pricing breakdown.
Is Botpress cheaper than hiring a developer to build the bot?
It is the wrong comparison if you picture Botpress as the alternative to hiring. Somebody still has to design the flows, connect the knowledge base, wire up your order or account system and test it. On Botpress that somebody is your own team, a freelance Botpress developer, or Botpress itself through Built by Botpress, which the May 2026 announcement lists at $1,650 a month ($19,800 a year).
A freelance build on Botpress Studio is usually shorter than a build from code because the platform supplies the chat widget, channels, knowledge base and human handoff. Expect roughly 30 to 100 hours for a support bot with one or two integrations, which at $60 to $150 an hour is $1,800 to $15,000 once. Against Built by Botpress, a mid-range freelance build pays for itself inside the first few months, and you own the flows afterward.
The other route skips the platform fee altogether. A custom agent written in code carries hosting, monitoring and upkeep of roughly $290 to $750 a month plus the build spread over two years, about $440 to $1,750 of fixed cost in total, and then about $0.05 of model tokens per conversation. Set against the Botpress bill:
- Lean custom build ($440 fixed). Cheaper than Plus from about 700 conversations a month and cheaper than Team at every volume, because Team starts at $750.
- Expensive custom build ($1,750 fixed). Crosses Team at about 3,900 conversations a month ($1,750 + $0.05 x 3,900 = $1,945, against 3,900 x $0.50 = $1,950).
- Below about 700 conversations a month, Botpress Plus is the cheaper way to run a real bot, and the platform saves you most of the build.
What the custom route buys beyond price is control: the model you want, no cap on AI spend per conversation, and no platform to migrate off if pricing changes again, which for Botpress it did this year. Whichever way you go, a bot that can refund, cancel or look up accounts should be tested against prompt injection attacks before customers can reach it, because the same tools that make it useful make it a target.
If the numbers point to a build, on Botpress or in code, describe your volume, the systems the bot has to read and what it may do in a hire brief, and get matched with chatbot developers with their rates up front. Build and buy are compared across more vendors on our AI customer service agent pricing page.
Botpress pricing questions buyers ask
Is Botpress billed monthly or annually?
Both. The pricing page shows Plus at $150 and Team at $750 a month billed annually, with a toggle labeled "Save 20%" for annual terms. Monthly billing costs more; at 20 percent off it would be near $187.50 and $937.50, so check the figure at checkout if you need to stay monthly.
What happens when I hit my Botpress conversation limit?
The bot keeps running. When you reach 95 percent of your quota, Botpress adds a pack of 100 conversations automatically, at $65 on Plus and $50 on Team. The Free plan is the exception: it stops at 25 conversations with no top-ups.
Do old Botpress plans still apply?
Yes, for existing workspaces. Botpress says the May 2026 changes apply only to workspaces created after May 14, 2026, and older workspaces keep their previous pricing. If you are comparing quotes, make sure both sides are quoting the same generation of plans.
Is Botpress cheaper than Intercom Fin?
Per resolution, only at high resolution rates. Botpress Team charges $0.50 for every conversation, so at a 50 percent resolution rate you pay $1.00 per resolved chat, against $0.99 for a Fin outcome. Above that rate Botpress gets cheaper; below it Fin does. Intercom also adds seat fees, covered in our Intercom Fin pricing breakdown.
